Step Into Easter

Pioneers were invited to the Great Eccleston Free Methodist Church to take part in their 'Step Into Easter' event. The children walked through the Easter story, following Jesus' journey through Jerusalem, His Last Supper and his time in the Garden of Gethsemane. They heard about His crucifixion and celebrated His resurrection. It was a fantastic way to bring Holy Week to life and make this learning meaningful for the children.

Tree Planting March 2026

Adventurers were invited to take part in a tree planting activity with Lancashire County Council, Wyre Borough Council and Great Eccleston Parish Council. They started by sowing seeds into the micro forest to provide new habitats for bees and other pollinating insects before planting over 300 new trees at the recreation ground off Pennine View, which are in addition to the 800 trees already planted by a group of volunteers over half term. We can't wait to see our trees start to grow!

Our PTFA organised the Great Eccleston Litter Pick and our children joined other volunteers to help to clean up our streets. Well done St Mary's!

Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service March 2026

Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service visited school to talk with Explorers and Pioneers. Year 1 & 2 talked about fire escape plans, the danger of fires and smoke alarms at home. They then completed some role playing activities being fire fighters, family members and emergency call operators.

Pioneers discussed road safety and the dangers of e-bikes and electric scooters.

British Science Week 2026

Curiosity - What's Your Question

This year for British Science Week we have been carrying out lots of investigations in our classes.

Pioneers investigated 'What makes the strongest boat?' and 'Which foods take the longest to dissolve on your tongue?'.

Adventurers investigated 'How can you make a paper aeroplane go further?'

Explorers investigated 'Which materials float for the longest?', 'How can you make a paper aeroplane go  further?' and lots more!

We shared our ideas in a whole school assembly and two of our Year 6 pupils represented the school at St Kentigern's, coming third out of all the BEBCMAT schools in the Science Challenge task.

Chinese New Year - February 2026

The children enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year 2026 - The Year of the Fire Horse.

Explorers loved creating decorations and lanterns for our special lunch menu with Caterlink!
