Class 1

                Welcome to Class One

Over the last 7 weeks the children in class one have been getting together on Zoom every Monday afternoon, the focus of this session has been to stay connected. Each week we have focused on a different word, achievement, happy, proud, positive thinking, pride and smile.

Class one have all been super stars and shared wonderful ideas with each other about things they could do to cheer themselves up, what to do if they are not feeling happy and why that is okay and all the wonderful things we have to be happy about even though things are a bit different at the moment. We have also enjoyed playing some team games.

Every other week the children also enjoy showing a piece of work they are proud of from the previous fortnight and receiving any certificates they have achieved.

Today, we looked at the word smile, the children all gave their best cheeky grin and shared a poem they had written about a smile. We also spent some time making a smile to share on our website.

What another great few weeks of home learning in Class One.

We have just completed our mini topic all about the continent of Asia and Chinese New Year. The children have been learning about different landmarks in Asia, we have seen some fabulous creations of the Great wall of china made from lego and playdoh, the Terracotta Army from blocks and recordings of the children pretending to climb the Himalayas. The children spent time learning all about the festival and the celebrations of Chinese New Year and prepared decorations for Chinese New Year on the Friday. Some families even decided to celebrate by preparing a Chinese feast.   We have included some photos below of the children's amazing work.

This week the children have also been finding activities to do off screen, it's been lovely to see photographs of children building dens, playing boards games, washing up, painting stones, splashing in puddles - well done everyone.

Yeah! Class one have cracked zoom, what superstars you all are!

We have had lots of fun meeting up each day, sometime even twice a day for lots of activities from super story times to games of bingo. It has been lovely to see the children's smiling faces. The children have had lots of fun bringing their teddies along to a story time and taking part in virtual Maths, English, Science and Phonics lessons.

We would like to say a big well done to everybody who received certificates during our achievements assembly and a big thank you to the parents who are doing a terrific job teaching the children from home.

This week was the end of our mini topic 'Homes and Houses' Class one have finished off the topic by designing, building and evaluating their own dream home. The children have been working very hard making their wonderful creations, they have also shared their dream homes over zoom. We have put a few photos below for you all to see.

Also, over the last three weeks the children have been looking at different traditional tales. The children have amazed us with wonderful wanted posters for the witch, paintings of their favourite characters, writing letters to the troll, retelling the story of Cinderella and many more amazing things. Super work class one!

This year we couldn't do our usual performance, so we decided to share the nativity story with class two. We hope you enjoy it.

Welcome back to the 2nd half of the Autumn term.  We are going to be learning about fireworks, the Great Fire of London and Christmas. Please see the attached overview for all the areas of learning the children will be covering.

On Friday mornings we will still be learning outside on the field; if your child has not brought wellies into school yet please make sure they have them in this half term as it will be very muddy.  We will be doing lots of activities with sticks over the next few weeks, if you go out and about over the weekends please collect any sticks or pinecones so we can use them, thank you to those who have already.

Homework and spellings for the year 1 and 2 children will be sent out weekly on see-sawSpellings will be sent out on Wednesday and children will be tested on the following Wednesday, and homework will usually be on the Friday.

Please continue to read with children at home and sign their diaries. Remember the children can read their book more than once; in fact, repeating the book is very good at helping the children remember key words.    We will change the childrens books at least once a week; however, we do try to change it as often as we can.  Please keep your child’s reading record and book in their book bag.

Obviously, we are unable to see you in the school setting at the moment so if you have any queries or concerns about your child at school send us a message on seesaw and we will help the best we can either online or by phone.

Unfortunately, we are unable to perform a Nativity for you this year, but we are hoping to do a little performance in class and we will send pictures on seesaw  We are hoping to make the last week of term as special as we can for the children and celebrate Christmas together.

Autumn 2 Fire and Christmas

Finally, we can say welcome back to everyone, it has been such a long time since we have been together. We are delighted to see the children and can’t wait to get started on the new topic for this half term which will be Robots. Please see the attached overview for all the areas of learning the children will be covering.  We will not be starting this topic straight away, for the next couple of weeks we will settle the children back into the routine of school and slowly introduce more formal learning.

This year we are encouraging the children to be more independent with their learning and have set up the classroom with continuous provision access for all the year groups.  Hopefully the children will be able to show some of their independent learning on their see-saw journals over the next few weeks. We are also intending on doing more outdoor learning so please make sure your child has wellies in school.

We are really lucky to have a new TA joining us in class one - Mrs Walton.  She will be with us every morning and on a Friday afternoon, we will also be keeping Mrs Hopkinson on a Monday and Thursday afternoon.

Homework and spellings for the year 1 and 2 children will be sent out weekly on see-saw .

Spellings for year 2 will be sent out on Wednesdays starting from Wednesday 17th September and children will be tested on the following Wednesday. Spellings for year 1 children will also be set on Wednesdays however these will start once we feel the children are ready for spellings.

We will be sending out reading books soon, please read with children at home and sign their diaries. Remember the children can read the book more than once, in fact repeating the book is very good at helping the children remember key words.    We will change the children’s books at least once a week, however we do try to change it as often as we can.  Please keep your child’s reading record and book in their book bag.

Obviously, we are unable to see you in the school setting at the moment so if you have any queries or concerns about your child at school send us a message on seesaw and we will help the best we can either online or by phone.

We are going to be making our own robots this half term, so if you have any old cereal boxes or cardboard tubes than please send them into class with your child so we can make the best robots.
